Whats up everyone, Janitor Jake here. Now see, in celebration of the new upcomming Sabrina the Teenage Witch show, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, I’m gonna yak a little bit about good ol’ Riverdale, since apparently both shows will take place in the same universe. Now I grew up watching the old Archie cartoons and reading the comics, so I was hesitant about watching Riverdale. However, after watching the first 2 seasons, it suprised the snot outta me at how good it was!! Riverdale takes the Archie universe, and puts a dark, twisted spin on it.
Right away, the show kicks you in the pants with the murder of a young dude named Jason Blossom, and the gang of Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica decide to play it Scooby Doo style, and attempt to solve the murder as well as other shennanigans that occure in the city. And thats basically the plot of the show. A bunch of evil and corrupt dumb dumbs try taking control of the city, and as everything goes to garbage, Archie & Friends try to bring down the corruption, without becoming corrupted themselves. The show has really good character development, and watching them take care of the nonsense, its really awesome. Now even though I think the show is really good, it does have its flaws.
The biggest issue I have with it, is also what I like about it, and thats the story telling. In certain spots, I feel like they drag the stories on for way to long. There are parts where some turd burgler is pulling some nonsense and you wanna see ’em brought to justice, however, right before the kids crack the case, some stupid hogwash occures, which prevents the bad guy from getting busted. And most of that hogwash is either Archie, Jughead, Betty or Veronica lying about something and being completly stupid. Now I understand if they need to lie to protect themselves or family, but 99.9% of the time, it’s some stupid, trivial poopoo, whereas, if they would have told the truth to begin with, everything would be all Happy Happy Joy Joy!! It’s like the writers do it on purpous cause they think its funny. Now there are moments where the evil doers get busted, and it brings a nice tickle to your belly, but those moments, are few and far between.
Now one other thing that really irritated me, was the way they treated some of the characters. I don’t wanna spoil too much, but there were a couple instances where they killed off characters. Now I could care less if it was some random character you made up just for the show, but when you start knocking off characters from the cartoons and comics, then you start gettin’ on my bad side.
Other than that, I think the show is pretty nifty. It’s got good character development and there are a lot of neat cameos from the comics and cartoons throws in there that you will enjoy, once you see ’em. So like I said, this is a nice, dark, twisted version of Archie & Friends that I totally reccomend going and binge watching before The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comes out. And with that being said, I’m gonna take off. So whatever, I’m Janitor Jake, have a good one!!
